Last Full Day

Here it is, the last full day at the resort. The family goes home tomorrow and I am going into Playa del Carmen for a few days before returning. It has been a good month.

it was once again sunny yesterday so I thought I would go get a couple last pictures ffrom here at the resort. Hope you like them, at least the colorful one.

The building is where we have been the last two weeks, it is the type used for the Grand Mayan Resort. Each resort class has their own style of building.

A Quiet Hideaway

If you know where to look you can find a quiet and somewhat secluded place to hide and relax.  It seems that every year they carve a few more of these places out of the jungle, while trying to preserve as much of the ecology as possible

Final Week

Time rolls around quickly, and once again it is the final week of our annual February migration. Soon we will be trading the white sand of the beach for the white snow in the driveway back in Ohio. All things considered it has been another wonderful trip the temperatures have been about 5 degrees cooler than normal but a bad winter day in Mexico is much better than a good winter day in Ohio.

Today we have shifted to another of the pools it is a bit more laid back and quiet there are fewer kids, it is mostly just people that want to lay by the pool and soak up the Sun.

Cirque de Soleil "Joya"

Last evening we went to see the new Cirque de Soleil here. The resort was gracious enough to comp us 5 tickets. It is called "Joya" and is similiar to a Grimms fairy tale cirque style.

The venue is awesum,  they offer dinner, chamoagne or regular seats to fit all styles.

The show is a bit shorter than we are used to in the states, but ut is not lacking in cirque flair.

It was a nice evening and if you are ever down on vacation I would recommend it.

The Beach

Anyone want to spend time on the beach ? During some recent construction, they had a hugh amount of sand brought in to expand the beach.. The bottom is still a little rocky in places, but they are working on that also.  The gov't will only let them due so much because it is sea turtle sancuary.

Oh Happy Day

Maybe this will give you folks up north a warm feeling, if not Ha Ha I'm here. It is just a little after 8 and the lounger at the pool is occupied, the sun is shining and it is in the upper 70's. The beginning of another day in paradise away from the cold and snow.

NOTICE THE POOL BAR NOT TO FAR AWAY

Better here than there

We met a wonderful couple by the pool last week, who went home on Sat. They made it to Philadelphia and were forced to spend a couple days hold up there due to the snow.

They sent us a couple pictures when they finally got back to New Hampshire.

Notice the handle on the patio door, not to even mention the front walk

Shady Day

After setting on the beach yesterday with the breeze blowing, it was decided ,  due to the pink glow we all had, that today would be a mostly shade day. We found a nice quiet place in one of the side pools and enjoyed the  cool calm water.

Better than Snow

Now doesn't this look better than seeing snow out the window. It is a bit breezy this morning but that will subside as it warms up. Who cares anyway when it is 72.

The Grand Mayan

This is the lobby entrance for the Grand Mayan, it is the second of four ownership levels offered by the resort, and probably the most popular.

The levels offered are Mayan Palace, Grand Mayan, Grand Bliss and Grand Luxxe. The Grand Luxxe has multiple levels from studio units to 4 bedroom units capable of sleepibg 12. We have a 2 bedroom that can handle 8 if you want to use the sleeper sofa's. I will post pictures later.

How Big

The main pool at the Vidanta Resort on the Riveria Maya. The pool is 5 acres with three tiers that overlook the beach and the ocean. It never seems crowded when we arw here and I wouldn't want to be gere if it was full.

As close as I can figure the reaort has a total of 12 pools most of them smaller and more relaxing.

Not Just a Pool

With an entrance to the one pool like this you have to be impressed.
The resort has 12 pools by my reconing. Most are smaller and mor intimate to spread the guest out amoung them, but the main pool is an infinity pool of three levels and covers 5, yes 5 , acres. I will get a picture posted later.

No Complaints

Who can complain with weather like this. It may be going down in the 60's at night but the upper 70's and low 80's with the sun are great during the day.

Something New

This year there have been some changes and some new additions to the resort. One of the major things is we now have raised wooden walkways going through the jungle connecting the major areas of the resort. While not necessarily the most direct or fastest way to get there it is quite relaxing just stroll along and take your time.

The Cirque de Soleil is open across the highway it is the first resident company outside of the United States

We also have a new beach club open this year with eight additional small where swimming pools

The weather is wonderful it is at 2 today and sunny.
